Where We Work
The area in which we work is located in the outskirts of Kampala, northwest of the city. Our Community Campus sits in the village of Jogo a poor but lush area with red clay soil, small, verdant plots and scores of orphaned children. Food and water are sufficient to meet villagers' basic needs but education and economic opportunities are not.

Many families consist of a jaja (grandmother) and her numerous orphaned grandchildren. She is a subsistence farmer with less then $1 USD per day to provide for her family. Her children have died due to the AIDS epidemic. Their children, her grandchildren will not go to school as there is no money for tuition or school supplies (a pen).

The grandchildren will grow into illiterate, untrained youth and 2/3 will remain unemployed. Their children, of whom there will be at least six, will continue this cycle of poverty, lack of education and unemployment and be susceptible to abuse and disease.

Connect Africa is working to break this cycle.

The Difference We're Making
149 orphans have received our support throughout their education since 2005.
250 loans have been given since 2005, with 92% successfully repaid.

100% of our students that met National Entrance Exam standards were able to attend university.
92% of our students finished primary school (7th grade) vs only 32% in the general population. (Due to poverty, gender challenges, child labor and early pregnancies/marriages.)
76% of our students have completed their program of study and are meaningfully employed. (World Bank reports that 17% of young Ugandans aged 15-24 are employed.)
Only 5% of our female students (4 of 75) have become pregnant. (Teen pregnancy rate in Uganda is 25% for general population, 72% among the poorest girls).
